BULLETIN
1/2005
DISTINGUISHED
NBDSF MEMBER COUNTRIES,
The
20th Deaflympics are happily over. Every member county surely must have had plenty of activities going on in your own country – especially in the early part of the year, from
January to April, is usually very busy time.
From
the NBDSF member countries
Sweden
succeeded best in
Melbourne–
our warm congratulations to
Sweden
!
Estonia
also received five medals.
Norway
and
Latvia
also received one bronze medal each. For the first time
Finland
and
Denmark
were left without a medal in the deaf summer Olympics. Also
Iceland
was left without a medal. All in all, in
Melbourne
the competition success of the NBDSF member countries was satisfactory, except for
Sweden
and
Estonia
.

The
Ministry of Education in
Finland
has granted 15.000€ to the Finnish Deaf Sports Federation (SKUL) for the development of the NBDSF activities for year
2005. The SKUL (Finnish Athletic Ass. of the Deaf) Board has made a decision to give 10.000€ directly to the NBDSF activities. A discussion on a more detailed plan of action
and budget will be carried out at the next NBDSF meeting on 28-29.5.2005 in
Latvia
.
-
For
your information:
Finland
will cover all the meeting-, accommodation (double rooms) - and meal expenses for the participating countries during the
meeting in
Riga
on 27-29.5.2005, for two nights, the same as it was in
2004 in
Lithuania
. The NBDSF member countries should only cover themselves the travelling and per diem expenses for their own participants.
One to two representatives from each member country is welcomed to the NBDSF meeting.
-
At
the meeting in
Lithuania
it was agreed that as an exception the calls to the meeting will be sent during the month of February to the member
countries. Normally, in other words according to the statutes, the calls to the meeting should be sent out six months prior to the meeting. Enclosed with this Bulletin you will
receive the preliminary agenda for the next NBDSF meeting. The member countries can still send their proposals for issues to be discussed at the meeting. In principle, flexible
co-operation between the NBDSF member countries is an excellent example of solidarity. The final agenda will be sent to the member countries by the end of March, in case
additional proposals for issues to be discussed at the meeting are received.
-
Discussions
with
Latvia
are still going on for more detailed meeting arrangements, in other words accommodation-, transportation- (from the airport
to the hotel and back), meal- and meeting room arrangements. By the end of March we will send you more detailed information on these arrangements.
-
Every
member country has received the NBDSF logo sent out by
Sweden
. Everybody has been satisfied; no critic has been received about the logo.
Thank you
,
Sweden
! We would like every member country to draft a proposal how the NBDSF official letter and envelope should look like. When
the final decision on the model has been made in
Riga
,
Finland
will get the new forms and envelopes printed for the NBDSF use right away.
-
We
(FIN) are trying to develop a proposal for the new NBDSF www-pages by the meeting in
Riga
. We would like to receive ideas and additional materials from you to update the NBDSF www-pages.

The
SKUL Board wanted to send their best regards to the NBDSF activities with wishes that every member country could start thinking of ways to increase fundraising. For instance,
would it be possible for every member country to apply 500€ funding annually for the NBDSF activities. Thus NBDSF would automatically receive 8 x 500€=4000€ annually for
its activities. The member countries could use
Finland
as an example when applying funding for this cause. This issue will also be discussed in
Riga
. The main goal is that none of the deaf sports federations would have to fund these activities from their own funds, but
that the government of your country would give a separate funding for the NBDSF activities. The next country holding the NBDSF presidency should of course apply for more than
this 500€.
We
would like to wish all the member countries good and active spring – and active correspondence with us!
With
co-operation wishes,
Jarmo
